All Chieftains are saddened by the passing of our greatest supporter - Syd Holland.

He played 151 games and scored 2667 runs at 23.81 with 12 half centuries.

He also collected 47 wickets at 23.79.

However, more importantly, he was a father figure, mentor and confidant across generations to hundreds.

Passionate, proud, fierce and loyal, Sidhu transformed the club from an indoor cricket side into the Sidmouth Cricket Club back in 1987 - the foundation for what the HCC is today.

Your Telstra shares remained solid when Syd was near the phone as he infectiously drew people into the Chieftain cause and offered advice.

The Guru was a Club Icon, life member, inaugural president, premiership captain, best & fairest winner and our biggest believer until the end.

He will be sorely missed. Never replaced. But his legend and words of wisdom will continue to drive the passion and soul of the HCC long into the future.

We will miss him religiously asking for score updates, watching quietly from Holland Hill or pulling people aside to share his two cents worth.

Words can't describe our sorrow. Every club has champions but for Syd, the Hadspen Cricket Club is eternally grateful for his 30-plus years of unwavering allegiance.

Rest easy our dear friend and sincere condolences to the entire Holland and HCC families.
